Communication is key.  My modus operandi is focused around providing open and comfortable communication so that we can produce the best sounding audio masters possible.  Out with the days of secretive mastering sessions with zero communication and comfort.  The mastering process can be a transparent, enriching, and exciting part of your album.

Through my extensive work as a professional freelance drummer, I have experienced mixing and mastering albums wearing every "hat" possible: hired gun, producer, composer, band-member, mix engineer, you-name-it.  It became apparent to me that at almost every stage of the music-making process, musicians and engineers alike lack the language and confidence to convey specifics when working with mastering engineers.

Part of my raison d'etre is to reduce this "veil of secrecy" and begin a dialogue rooted in transparency and mutual understanding.

From there, we master.

To ensure the best sounding masters  possible, I recommend removing any overt bus-processing that is not an integral part of your mix, and avoiding any limiting on the stereo bus.  Ideally, the peak levels of your final mix would be somewhere between  -6 and -12 dBFS.

You are welcome to attend a session in Montreal if desired.  As opposed to the traditional 'better-finish-in-one-day and attend the one-and-only rushed session' approach that is typical of larger mastering studios, I prefer to do a preliminary version myself which the clients are then encouraged to listen to in their familiar listening environments.

This first draft might be exactly what is desired, but if adjustments are needed the attended session would be ideally the "wrap-up", with increased familiarity and discussion before the finalizations are made.  I'm happy to spend a bit more time on a project to ensure it sounds as good as it can, in each desired format.  A win-win situation.

Previous and current clients include Michael Feuerstack, Margaret Currie, Sheenah Ko, Alexia Avina, Nick Schofield, Casa Lagarto, Best Fern, moss.ok, Cedric Noel, Special Solace, Bodywash, Maggy France, Saxsyndrum, Data Slum, Victory Chimes, Ohara, Bambi Lou, May Have, and many more to come.
